The Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) Aviation is conducting a market‑research “Sources Sought” to assess industry capability for a turn‑key retrofit and upgrade of an existing Ajax‑Hultgren molten‑salt‑bath heat‑treating furnace (serial # 4217‑A) and its associated water‑quench tank at Naval Air Station North Island, San Diego. The effort will replace the furnace’s heating system, refractory liner, agitators, lid mechanism, quench tank, electrical controls, PLC, and related safety hardware, while the government supplies the core furnace chassis and tank. Respondents must submit a concise capability statement, cost‑estimate breakdown, and comments on the draft purchase description by the response deadline.
• Upgrade scope includes new natural‑gas burners (~1.5 MM BTU), refractory liner, agitation system, lid/rail, stainless‑steel quench tank, PLC (Honeywell HC900) with HMI, and full electrical and safety compliance (NFPA, SAE, MIL‑STD).
• Deliverables: design & installation drawings (hard copy & AutoCAD), technical data packages, Acceptance Test Plan, Plan of Action & Milestones, and a total cost estimate broken out by machine, training, documentation, installation, foundation, removal, and shipping.
• Requirements: ability to meet temperature‑uniformity (±5 °F), set‑point accuracy (±2 °F), noise ≤84 dB(A), compliance with multiple NFPA and MIL standards, and provide a 30‑day post‑award submission of equipment specs, POA&M, and ATP.
