Description

The City of Suffolk is seeking qualified firms to perform upgrades to downtown traffic signals as part of a CMAQ (Clean Air) initiative. The scope includes removal of existing signal hardware, installation of new signal heads, controllers, wiring, and integration with existing traffic management systems to improve traffic flow and reduce emissions. The project is classified under “Equipment – Non‑Technology” and is intended to modernize the downtown corridor. • Replace or refurbish signal heads, controllers, and associated wiring at multiple downtown intersections. • Provide full design, installation, testing, and commissioning services to ensure compliance with city standards and CMAQ objectives. • Deliver documentation, as‑built drawings, and training for city personnel on the new equipment.

Budget estimate

$500,000 – $1,500,000

A downtown signal upgrade typically costs between $50,000 and $150,000 per intersection, depending on signal complexity, wiring length, and integration needs. Assuming the project covers roughly 10–12 intersections, the total contract value is likely in the $500,000‑$1,800,000 range. This estimate accounts for equipment purchase, labor, engineering design, testing, and documentation.
