The National Park Service intends to award a single source justified cooperative agreement to Portland State University for the project "Tribal Perspectives on Cultural Resources and Interpretation at John Day Fossil Beds National Monument". The project aims to complete a study of cultural resource information in support of interpretive programs, resource management, and consultation with tribes historically associated with the monument. The project will document places of cultural importance to traditionally-associated peoples and account for these places in the present and future management of the park's land and resources.
• The project will involve collaboration with participating tribes in determining general research plans and protocols.
• The project will synthesize information available only in tribal archives, along with interviews of tribal elders.
• The project will develop a written summary of traditional use information derived from materials provided by tribes.
• The project will produce maps as appropriate of cultural information assembled for this study.
• The project will be completed over a period of 39 months, from September 5, 2018, to December 15, 2021.
