Description

The Federal Highway Administration, Western Federal Lands Highway Division, in partnership with the National Park Service Grand Teton National Park, is proposing to implement Phase 2 of the Moose-Wilson Road corridor improvements. Phase 2 activities would take place in two different sections along the corridor. The project includes realigning the northernmost segment of Moose-Wilson Road, reconstructing the Death Canyon Road/Moose-Wilson Road intersection, relocating the Death Canyon Trailhead, and constructing a new parking area. The project also involves reconstructing and rehabilitating areas between the Laurence S. Rockefeller intersection and the Death Canyon intersection, including provision of pullouts and barriers. Some key features of the project include: • Realigning the northernmost segment of Moose-Wilson Road • Reconstructing the Death Canyon Road/Moose-Wilson Road intersection • Relocating the Death Canyon Trailhead and constructing a new 80-90 car parking area • Constructing formalized parking turnouts on Moose-Wilson Road and Death Canyon Road • Reconstructing and rehabilitating areas between the Laurence S. Rockefeller intersection and the Death Canyon intersection The project requires the implementation of various Best Management Practices (BMPs) to control erosion and sedimentation, prevent stormwater contamination, and comply with the requirements of the Clean Water Act. Some of the BMPs that will be used include: • Preserving existing vegetation • Scheduling to minimize site disturbance at a given time • Surface roughening to increase infiltration and reduce erosion • Minimizing ground disturbance • Installing silt fences and fiber rolls to control sedimentation • Implementing good housekeeping practices to maintain a clean and orderly facility • Providing employee training to inform personnel of their responsibilities in implementing the SWPPP The project is expected to be completed by October 1, 2027.
