Description

The Town of Warsaw’s water district #1 is located to the north of the Village of Warsaw in the central portion of Wyoming County. The water mains in this area were first installed in 1990’s and consists of 6-to-8-inch ductile iron pipes that are fed by a meter pit located at the Town and Village of Warsaw boundary. While the 6-inch main should have remained operational for the next 25 years, the mains are failing with a frequency of water mains at the end of their useful lives. In September 2018, the Town tested the soil, and it was found that the soil is highly corrosive to ductile iron which explains the frequency of breaks and failures. Through this project, the Town will replace the existing ductile iron water main along portions of NYS Route 19 and Saltvale Road with approximately 7,000 linear feet of 8-inch PVC, valves, hydrants and appurtenances. This replacement system will be designed to meet current design standards and operate at safe pressures. The new water main will be installed within the road Right of Way or easements and generally parallel to the existing water main. Existing water services will be connected to the new water main with the new HDPE services that will run between the new main and the existing service’s curb stop. The Village of Warsaw will continue to be responsible for the operation and maintenance of the new distribution mains. In keeping with these requirements, the qualifications-based procurement standards for the Procurement of Architectural, Engineering, and Surveying (A/E) Services shall apply. Utilizing a qualifications-based process, the Town will select a consulting engineering firm to perform the tasks listed in this RFQ and any others that may arise during the completion of the project. Proposals will be received from all firms which wish to be considered for this engagement. Budget estimate

$1,200,000 – $5,500,000

The budget for this project can be estimated based on the scope of work, which includes replacing approximately 7,000 linear feet of water main with PVC, valves, hydrants, and appurtenances. The cost of materials and labor for such a project can range from $1 million to $5 million, depending on the complexity of the project, the location, and the contractor's rates. Additionally, the cost of engineering services, including design and inspection, can add another $200,000 to $500,000 to the total cost. Therefore, the estimated budget for this project is between $1.2 million and $5.5 million.
