The National Cooperative Geologic Mapping Program (NCGMP) is a coordinated program that prioritizes the geologic mapping requirements of the Nation and increases production of geologic maps. The STATEMAP component of the NCGMP establishes the geologic framework of areas determined to be vital to the economic, social, or scientific welfare of individual States and the Nation. The program supports the development of a national geologic framework through the generation of 2D and 3D geologic map databases.
• The program provides funding for geologic mapping and associated research to support the responsible use of land, water, energy, and minerals, and to mitigate the impact of geologic hazards on society.
• The program requires a 1:1 Federal/State funding match for the total budget.
• Proposals may contain any number of projects, and each project should be clearly defined and justified.
• The program has various guidance criteria, including the creation and submission of new geologic maps, derivative maps, and geologic map databases.
