The National Park Service intends to award a cooperative agreement to the Pinnacles National Park Foundation to support the tracking of California condors at Pinnacles National Park. The project aims to provide continuous monitoring, tracking, and data collection of California condors and support the foundation in providing volunteers for critical monitoring work. The foundation will recruit, train, and mentor volunteers, track volunteer hours, and schedule and oversee volunteers and training. The National Park Service will train volunteers in condor monitoring and mapping downloaded GPS data, review the volunteers' work, and enter their data in National Park Service databases.
• The project will help the National Park Service manage and protect the California condor, a federally listed endangered species.
• The foundation will use private donations to pay for a portion of GPS service fees and the National Park Service will provide financial assistance to pay for a portion of the invoices.
• The project will incorporate the observations from volunteer condor monitoring and downloaded GPS data into educational programs provided by the foundation and the National Park Service.
• The project will disseminate results to park visitors and the public, as well as all partners involved in current condor recovery decision-making.
