Description

The Middle Tennessee State University Farm Laboratories is seeking a vendor to provide a comprehensive dairy dry cow, calf, and heifer development nutrition program. The program should include dry cow mineral supplementation, trace mineral supplementation, vitamin supplementation, and close-up cow feed and feeding rate recommendations. The vendor should also provide a complete calf nutrition program from birth through weaning and a heifer development nutrition program from weaning through first calving. The vendor will be required to provide monthly on-farm visits by a qualified dairy nutritionist and make recommendations for continuous improvement. Some key points to consider are: • The program should maximize calf health and survivability, promote optimal growth and skeletal development of replacement heifers, and achieve age at first calving targets of approximately 22 to 24 months. • The vendor should provide forage sampling and feed analysis recommendations as needed throughout the contract period. • The vendor should review growth, reproductive, and health performance data and make recommendations for continuous improvement. • The vendor should provide written ration formulations and nutritional recommendations whenever adjustments are made.

Budget estimate

$43,800 – $73,000

The budget for this opportunity is difficult to estimate as the document does not provide a clear budget or payment amount. However, considering the scope of the project, which includes providing a comprehensive nutrition program for dairy dry cows, calves, and heifers, as well as monthly on-farm visits by a qualified dairy nutritionist, the budget could be substantial. The vendor will need to provide per-head-per-day pricing for dry cows, calves, weaned calves, and heifer development, which could range from $1 to $5 per head per day, depending on the quality of the feed and the services provided. Assuming an average price of $3 per head per day and an average of 20-25 dry cows and 20-25 replacement heifers, the daily cost would be around $120-$200 per day. For a 12-month contract, the total budget could be in the range of $43,800 to $73,000 per year. However, this is a rough estimate and the actual budget could be higher or lower, depending on the specific requirements of the contract and the services provided.
