The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is soliciting proposals for the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase I funding opportunity. This opportunity is focused on developing innovative technologies that address specific NASA needs. The proposals should demonstrate a clear understanding of the problem and the current state of the art, and should outline a technical approach that is sound and feasible. The proposed effort should be consistent with the requirements of the research subtopic, and should demonstrate a clear understanding of the risks involved. The proposals will be evaluated based on four factors: scientific/technical merit and feasibility, experience and qualifications, effectiveness of the proposed work plan, and commercial potential.
Some of the key areas of research include:
• Development of hydrazine-compatible elastomeric materials for long-duration spaceflight
• Flight demonstrations of commercial in-space logistics, robotic manipulation, and automation systems
• Advanced spacesuit architectures, technologies, and designs for Mars exploration
• Energy storage for long-duration missions
• Mars and lunar power transfer technology development
• In-situ instruments and instrument components for lunar and planetary science
• Suborbital instruments and sensor systems
• High-performance detector technologies
• Advanced data-driven applications for space weather research-to-operations-to-research
• Catalyzing high-throughput in-space production of semiconductors and quantum materials
The proposals should include a detailed description of the technical approach, a work plan, a budget, and a description of the potential commercial applications of the proposed technology.
