The National Park Service intends to award a single source justified cooperative agreement to the College of William and Mary for the project "Assessment of Survival Rates of the Ipswich Sparrow". The project aims to fill in the knowledge gaps of this migratory species of concern to better understand its overwintering habitat needs on a landscape level. The project will employ distance sampling techniques and mark-resight techniques to examine winter survival. The project will contribute to the state of knowledge of migratory wildlife and biodiversity within and adjacent to park units.
• The project will establish replicate line transects for targeted shoreline types and survey using standard distance sampling techniques.
• The project will use mark-recapture techniques to estimate winter survival rates.
• The project will employ banding techniques to capture and mark sparrows.
• The project will analyze data to estimate apparent winter survival and site fidelity.
