Description

The State of Hawaii, Department of Land and Natural Resources, is seeking bids for the construction of a grazing unit fence in the Wahikuli area on the island of Maui. The project involves the installation of approximately 8,500 linear feet of ungulate-proof fence, including the construction of step-through gates and a vehicle gate. The successful bidder will be required to provide a performance bond and a payment bond for each project to ensure completion of all projects to the specifications. The bidder will also be responsible for transporting all required materials, labor, and equipment to the site. • The fence will be 48 inches high with a top strand wire. • The fence will be supported by 7-foot galvanized coated T-posts sunk into the ground at least two feet and placed no more than 8 feet apart. • The contractor will be responsible for brushing a fence corridor, fence construction, and post-construction clean-up. • The contractor will be required to implement precautions to prevent the introduction of alien plants, animals, and insects, and to prevent the spread of Rapid Ohia Death (ROD). • The contractor will be required to provide a certification of compliance for final payment, and to furnish information on their experience with similar projects.

Budget estimate

$600,000 – $1,200,000

The budget for this project can be estimated based on the cost of materials and labor. The cost of materials, including fence posts, wire, and gates, can range from $30 to $50 per linear foot, depending on the quality and type of materials used. Labor costs can range from $20 to $50 per hour, depending on the location and experience of the workers. Assuming an average cost of $40 per linear foot for materials and $30 per hour for labor, the total cost for the project can be estimated as follows: 8,500 linear feet x $40 per linear foot = $340,000 for materials, 8,500 linear feet x $30 per hour x 2 hours per linear foot (assuming 2 hours of labor per linear foot) = $510,000 for labor. The total estimated cost for the project would be $340,000 + $510,000 = $850,000. However, this is just an estimate, and the actual cost of the project may vary depending on various factors, such as the complexity of the project, the experience of the contractor, and the cost of equipment and supplies. Therefore, the budget for this project can be estimated to be in the range of $600,000 to $1,200,000.
