The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service intends to award a sole source purchase order to InnovaSea for the provision of Acoustic Telemetry Transmitters. The transmitters will be used to study predation rates of non-native trout in Lake Tahoe. The equipment is patented technology, and InnovaSea is the sole source for this equipment. The project aims to understand predation rates from non-native trout and how they vary according to stocking locations, stocked fish size, and thermal preferences/tolerances. The key features of the transmitters include:
• Capability to relay water temperature data and predation events via a stomach acid induced switch
• Estimated tag life of 176 days
• Specific programming requirements, including on and off cycles and random delay
• Requirement for 20 transmitters with rounded cases and digestion sensors
The project is an ongoing study, and the two previous years of research demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of the technology.
