Description

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) is issuing a Request for Information (RFI) to vendors to gather information related to the current state of Changeable Message Signs (CMS) with Lane Use Control capabilities. The project consists of six gantry locations to support proposed CMS with lane use control functionality in both directions at strategic points along Route 1 to the north and south of Gillette Stadium. Vendors are invited to submit a written response detailing their methodology for addressing the points outlined in the RFI, including experience with comparable size signs, integration into MassDOT’s central system, and adherence to relevant national traffic standards and communication protocols. • The signs will be used to indicate which lanes are available for use at various times of day during major events and/or during contraflow operations along Route 1. • The signs will span the entire roadway and be approximately 70 feet in width. • There will be six locations and 12 signs in total. • The signs need to operate in all weather conditions, from -40 to 120 degrees Fahrenheit. • The signs need to adhere to relevant national traffic standards and communication protocols.

Budget estimate

$1,200,000 – $6,000,000

The budget for this project is difficult to estimate as it is a Request for Information and not a solicitation for a specific contract. However, based on the scope of the project, which includes the installation of 12 CMS signs along Route 1, the budget could be substantial. The cost of each sign could range from $100,000 to $500,000, depending on the complexity of the design and the materials used. Therefore, the total budget for the project could be in the range of $1.2 million to $6 million.
