Community Sustainability Engagement and Green Business Certification/Recognition Programs

The City of Santa Monica seeks a qualified consulting firm to design, implement, and evaluate a suite of community‑focused sustainability and green‑business programs over a five‑year term. The consultant will partner with the Office of Sustainability and the Environment to expand existing initiatives, create new outreach events, manage certification processes, and produce communications and data reporting. Key responsibilities include organizing free community sustainability events (e.g., film screenings, resource fairs), running the annual Student Sustainability Poster Contest, recruiting and supporting businesses for the California Green Business Network certification, administering the Sustainable Quality Awards and “Most Loved Santa Monica Businesses” contest, maintaining a monthly “Buy Local” e‑newsletter, managing social‑media outreach, maintaining a public web portal, and collecting measurable outcomes on resource‑use reductions. The contract is firm‑fixed‑price, five years, and requires at least five years of relevant experience. • Develop and execute community engagement events and K‑12 student contest. • Recruit, certify, and promote green businesses; manage award programs. • Produce outreach materials, maintain website/social media, and publish a monthly newsletter. • Collect and report data on participation, resource savings, and program impact. • Serve as primary liaison for the City’s sustainability office and stakeholders.
