The National Park Service intends to award a single-source justified cooperative agreement to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, for the SW EPMT-UNLV Collaborative Restoration Projects for Glen Canyon NRA and Tuzigoot NM. The project aims to gain an improved understanding of how to effectively treat invasive ravenna grass and kochia and restore habitats to support wildlife and watershed function. The recipient will work with the SW EPMT and park representatives to plan and write two restoration plans for two parks, provide a specialized work crew, and hire a Master's degree graduate student to work on the GLCA restoration plan and research.
Key aspects of the project include:
• Work with the SW EPMT to provide and supervise a specialized work crew of 6-8 youth, or students, or local workers, including crew leader and assistant crew leader, to work with the control of invasive plants and all aspects of native habitat restoration.
• Provide a Master’s degree graduate student to work on primarily the GLCA restoration Plan and research.
• Provide most needed equipment required to perform tasks in the field.
The project will result in at least one published scientific paper, and the information, products, and/or services identified or developed by this project will be shared through various strategies to increase public awareness, knowledge, and support for stewardship of the nation’s natural heritage.
