Description

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is conducting market research to identify potential sources of commercial equipment/services that satisfy their anticipated needs for O-band optical filters. The filters should meet specific requirements, including manually tunable optical filters covering the wavelength range 1260 nm to 1300 nm, pass bandwidths of 0.15 nm or narrower, and very low insertion loss. Respondents should provide information about their company, the equipment they sell, and any relevant experience. The responses will be used to determine the capability of the organization and may be used to inform a future solicitation. * The O-band optical filters should have a wavelength range of 1260 nm to 1300 nm. * The pass bandwidths should be 0.15 nm or narrower. * The insertion loss should be very low, with a typical value of 1.6 dB or better and a worst-case value not to exceed 2.0 dB. * The polarization-dependent loss should not exceed 0.25 dB. * The out-of-band suppression should be 45 dB or better. * The input and output of the filter should be compatible with SMF-28 FC/APC fibers.

Budget estimate

$100,000 – $500,000

The budget for this opportunity is difficult to estimate, as the notice does not provide information on the budget or the potential contract value. However, based on the requirements for the O-band optical filters, it is likely that the contract value will be in the range of $100,000 to $500,000. This estimate is based on the assumption that the contract will be for a small quantity of high-tech equipment, and the prices for similar equipment can range from $50,000 to $200,000 per unit. The actual budget will depend on the specific requirements of the contract and the prices quoted by the respondents. Factors that may influence the likely payment range include: * The quantity of filters required * The complexity of the filter design and manufacturing process * The prices of similar equipment in the market * The budget available to NIST for this project
