Special Counsel Procurement

The State University of New York (SUNY) is seeking a special counsel to provide legal advisement and guidance on a dispute related to water infiltration and mold presence in prefabricated residential units. The selected counsel will be responsible for providing legal advice and guidance on all pre-litigation stages, including preservation strategy, joint inspections, vendor communications, and mediation. The contract is anticipated to be effective on or about April 15, 2026, and will have a term of five years. The successful bidder will be required to provide quarterly reports and comply with all applicable laws and regulations. Key aspects of the job include: • Providing legal advice and guidance on pre-litigation stages • Coordinating joint inspections and vendor communications • Assisting with mediation and insurance claims • Reviewing contracts and insurance policies • Providing initial legal advice and guidance on litigation strategy • Working with the Stony Brook team to preserve and mitigate damages
