Description

The project involves the rehabilitation of the Veterans Point Trail, an asphalt trail with metal railing and timber retaining walls that provides access from the parking area to fishing piers and viewpoints at Pactola Reservoir. The trail is approximately 2,959 feet long and is located on the North side of Pactola Reservoir Dam. The project includes filling and sealing cracks, reconstructing select sections, stabilizing eroding areas, and applying a seal coat to the asphalt. The timber retaining walls will be removed and reconstructed with segmental concrete block retaining walls. The pipe railing will be repaired, and damaged sections will be eliminated. The project also includes constructing reinforcement with gabion (wire rock baskets) to repair eroded sections at the trail's edge and bridge abutments. Key Features of the project include: • Rehabilitation of the Veterans Point Trail • Removal and reconstruction of timber retaining walls • Repair and replacement of pipe railing • Construction of reinforcement with gabion baskets • Application of a seal coat to the asphalt trail • Stabilization of eroding areas • Reconstruction of select sections of the trail The project is expected to start approximately March 1, 2026, and be completed before May 20, 2027.

Budget estimate

$500,000 – $2,000,000

The budget for this project can be estimated based on the scope of work, which includes rehabilitation of the trail, removal and reconstruction of retaining walls, repair of pipe railing, and stabilization of eroding areas. The cost of materials, labor, and equipment for the project will depend on various factors, including the location, accessibility, and environmental conditions of the site. Assuming an average cost per linear foot of trail rehabilitation, the total cost of the project can be estimated. A rough estimate for the project cost is between $500,000 and $2,000,000, considering the scope of work, materials, and labor required.
