Description

This Request for Information (RFI) is issued by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to gather input on potential technologies to address space technology shortfalls, specifically those related to materials-limited technologies for the Moon and Mars. The purpose is to seek information on technologies that can be enabled by advances in non-metallic materials, addressing one or more of the high-ranking NASA Civil Space Shortfalls. Some key areas of interest include: • New technologies and concepts that can only be realized with materials innovations and/or advances in materials processing • Existing technologies and concepts not typically used for space applications that could address the shortfalls if enabled by new materials • New or existing technologies and concepts requiring innovative materials testing capabilities to prove their utility for space applications NASA is looking for input on materials-limited technologies and concepts, including their current state of development, materials requirements, and potential future capabilities.

Budget estimate

$1,000,000 – $10,000,000

It is difficult to estimate the budget for this opportunity, as it is a Request for Information and not a solicitation. However, considering the scope of the project and the fact that it is related to space exploration, the budget could potentially be in the range of millions of dollars, depending on the specific technologies and concepts developed. Factors that may influence the likely payment range include the complexity of the technologies, the number of respondents, and the level of investment required for development.
