Description

The Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) is seeking industry partners to commercialize its biodegradable soil temperature sensor technology. The sensor is 99% biodegradable and has been field-tested, providing high precision and eliminating the need for manual retrieval at the end of its lifecycle. The technology has potential applications in sustainable agriculture and composting, particularly on an industrial scale. • The sensor utilizes a bimaterial helix that rotates in response to temperature changes. • The cellulosic-based helix is contained within a biodegradable plastic cylindrical casing with a large readout dial. • The device is easy to view and can be operated without batteries and wiring. • Companies interested in commercializing the technology should provide a statement of interest, including company name and address, point of contact, and a description of corporate expertise and facilities relevant to commercializing the technology.

Budget estimate

$500,000 – $2,000,000

The budget for this opportunity is difficult to estimate, as the document does not provide information on the potential revenue or funding for the project. However, considering the technology's potential applications in sustainable agriculture and composting, the budget could be substantial. The cost of developing and commercializing the sensor could be in the range of $500,000 to $2 million, depending on the complexity of the technology and the resources required for its development.
