Description

The United States Coast Guard (USCG) is seeking information on high energy laser technologies for maritime applications. The USCG is interested in systems or effectors that use high energy lasers (HEL) or comparable laser technology to incapacitate targets of interest (TOIs) in the maritime environment. The maritime environment refers to installation locations that include, but are not limited to, fixed sites such as piers, on the move (OTM) cutters, and OTM small boats. The primary TOIs for this RFI are uncrewed systems, including uncrewed aerial systems (UAS) and uncrewed surface vessels (USV). • The USCG is looking for information on the technical description of the technology, including imagery as applicable. • The USCG is interested in the physical characteristics of the technology, including dimensions, weight, and other relevant parameters. • The USCG is seeking information on the technical readiness level (TRL) of the technology, as defined in the US Government Accountability Office's Technology Readiness Assessment Guide. • The USCG is looking for information on the safety features of the technology, including auto shut-off, alarms, and airspace deconfliction hardware or software. • The USCG is interested in the logistics of the technology, including the estimated timeline to deliver one effector or system, the estimated cost of the technology, and the potential for integration as part of a limited user evaluation or low-rate initial production.

Budget estimate

$1,000,000 – $10,000,000

The budget for this opportunity is difficult to estimate, as it is a Request for Information and not a solicitation for a contract. However, based on the information provided, it appears that the USCG is interested in developing and potentially integrating high energy laser technologies for maritime applications. The cost of such technologies can vary widely, depending on the specific requirements and complexity of the system. A rough estimate for the development and integration of a high energy laser system could be in the range of $1 million to $10 million, although this is highly speculative and may not reflect the actual costs. Factors that may influence the likely payment range include the complexity of the technology, the scope of the project, and the level of integration required.
