Description

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is seeking a contractor to develop a prototype textile and coating system for lunar spacesuit applications. The contractor will collaborate with NASA to optimize the base fabric construction and refine the finishing processes, including calendaring and the application of a high-performance resin coating. The scope of work includes addressing requirements related to fabric hand, flame resistance, electrostatic discharge (ESD) performance, interlaminar peel strength, and abrasion resistance. The project has a fixed price contract type, and the contractor is expected to perform the services using commercially reasonable best efforts. The key deliverables include a project kickoff meeting, updated test plan and test matrix, scale-up and manufacturability assessment, interim coated fabric samples, and fifteen 18" x 12" sheets of the final optimized coated fabric solution. • The contractor will work on optimizing the coating system based on prior test data and development experience. • The contractor will provide representative fabric specimens to NASA in support of downstream fabric validation testing. • The contractor will conduct a scaling and industrialization assessment of the proposed coating system. • The contractor will refine the coating formulation based on lessons learned from previous testing and development activities.

Budget estimate

$200,000 – $500,000

The budget for this opportunity can be estimated based on the scope of work and the deliverables. Considering the complexity of the project, the cost of materials, and the labor required, a reasonable estimate for the budget could be between $200,000 and $500,000. This estimate is based on the assumption that the contractor will need to invest in research and development, testing, and manufacturing of the prototype textile and coating system. The actual budget may vary depending on the contractor's expertise, resources, and the level of competition. Factors that may influence the likely payment range include the contractor's experience in working with NASA, the level of innovation and uniqueness of the proposed solution, and the availability of resources and funding for the project.
