The City of Salem is seeking a landscape architect to provide professional planning and advisory services related to tree planting at Salem Common. The selected consultant will develop a conceptual long-range tree planting and replacement framework, increase species diversity, and inform near-term planting decisions. The scope of work includes an existing conditions review, tree planning framework, species and location recommendations, implementation guidance, and meetings and presentations. The City reserves the right to reject any or all proposals and to waive any non-material irregularities or information in the RFP.
Key aspects of the project include:
• Developing a clear, phased framework for tree planting and replacement at Salem Common
• Increasing species diversity and long-term canopy health
• Informing Spring 2026 planting decisions, subject to approvals and resources
• Providing a planning document that may be used to support future fundraising and coordination
The project requires a thoughtful, phased approach to diversification and long-term canopy resilience, considering the historic landscape and ecological context of Salem Common.
