Web-based Library Data Collection and Dissemination

The New York State Education Department's (SED) New York State Library will contract with Counting Opinions to provide web-based data collection applications used to compile statistical data required for mandated Federal and State reporting purposes, other data collection purposes, and a web-based application for library data dissemination. The New York State Library compiles information from 7,000 libraries statewide, including annual surveys for public, academic, school, Indian, and special libraries to fulfill state and federal requirements, and to distribute State Aid. Surveys are filled out annually by the three types of library systems, by public and association libraries, academic libraries, and Indian libraries. Additionally, all 72 library systems in New York State complete and submit a survey every five years to the State Library detailing their “plan of service” for the next five-year period. The contract with Counting Opinions is estimated to be 18 months.
