The Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program (EFSP) provides federal funds to supplement and expand the work of local social service agencies, both nonprofit and governmental, to assist families and individuals experiencing severe economic crises. The program supports the response and recovery mission areas of the National Preparedness Goal by complementing actions undertaken to achieve an "all-of-Nation preparedness approach" and mitigates the potential burdens imposed on response and recovery efforts. The National Board is the only eligible applicant for this funding opportunity. Key services that can be provided using EFSP funds include food, lodging, rental/mortgage assistance, utility payments, and transportation costs.
• Food, in the form of served meals or groceries
• Lodging in a mass shelter or hotel
• One month's rental or mortgage assistance to prevent evictions
• One month's utility payment to prevent service cut-offs
• Transportation costs associated with the provision of food or shelter
• Minimal repairs to mass feeding or sheltering facilities for building code violations or for handicapped accessibility
• Supplies and equipment necessary to feed or shelter people, up to a $300 limit per item
