Cold Case Detective

The County of San Mateo is seeking a qualified and experienced contractor to provide professional cold case investigative services. The selected contractor will support the agency's efforts to review, evaluate, and advance unresolved criminal investigations through comprehensive case analysis, investigative follow-up, and the application of current investigative methods and resources. The contractor will be responsible for reviewing old case files, re-interviewing witnesses and families, and preparing cases for prosecution. Key duties include identifying new leads, maintaining chain of custody, and collaborating with forensic experts to build a new case from old evidence. • Review, triage, and organize all open and/or unsolved San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office and East Palo Alto Police Department homicide cases. • Review previously written crime reports, associated documentation and physical evidence. • Examine physical evidence. • Accommodate and facilitate interview(s) and/or re-interview(s) of witnesses and other persons associated with or pertinent to case(s). • Prepare written reports documenting interview and supplemental investigation. • Collect, document, and process additional evidence associated with case(s). • Liaison with the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office for the purpose of prosecution of identified suspect(s).
