RFP 26-06: Canal 145 Organic Removal and Backfill Restoration Project

The Village of Islamorada, Florida, is seeking proposals from qualified contractors to provide services for the organic removal and backfilling of Canal 145 on Lower Matecumbe Key. The project involves the removal of approximately 2,300 cubic yards of organic sediment and the placement of approximately 11,866 cubic yards of clean fill to achieve the design elevation of -8.1 feet (NAVD 88). The successful proposer will be responsible for furnishing all necessary labor, supervision, tools, parts, materials, and equipment required to complete the project. Key aspects of the project include: • Removing organic sediment from the bottom of the canal • Backfilling the canal with clean fill to achieve the design elevation • Protecting all resources during construction to avoid impacts • Installing silt fence and temporary construction fencing around the staging area • Removing and storing hoses and diffusers prior to the project commencement and setting them back in place once the project construction is complete • Obtaining necessary permits not identified by the Village The Village maintains an air curtain system at the mouth of the canal to reduce the amount of floating weed from entering the canal.
