Description

The Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) is issuing a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for FY 2026 to invite a single awardee (invited‑to‑apply only, NORC) to conduct the Census of Tribal Law Enforcement Agencies (CTLEA) and the Census of Tribal Court Systems (CTCS). The award will provide supplemental funding and a 12‑month extension (through 31 Dec 2027) to complete previously approved work and additional methodological tasks, including metadata collection, data validation, non‑response bias analysis, implementation reporting, and detailed metadata analysis. The effort is a cooperative agreement valued up to $200,000 and is classified under the “Special Data Collections and Statistical Studies” CFDA program. • Scope: Collect, validate, and analyze statistical data on federally recognized tribal law‑enforcement and court agencies. • Deliverables: Metadata reports, validation/verification documentation, bias analysis, implementation report, and final metadata analysis reports. • Period of Performance: 12 months, ending 31 Dec 2027. • Funding: Up to $200,000 (cooperative agreement). • Eligibility: Invited‑to‑apply only (NORC). • Award Count: One. • Submission Window: 19 Oct 2026 – 20 Oct 2026 (24‑hour window).

Budget estimate

$100,000 – $200,000

The NOFO lists an award ceiling of $200,000 and a floor of $0, indicating the full funding could be up to $200 K. Given the scope (national census, data validation, multiple analytical reports) and the cooperative‑agreement structure, a realistic budget range is roughly $100,000 to $200,000, depending on the final negotiated scope and cost‑share arrangements.
