Description

The National Institute on Aging (NIA) intends to publish a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) to solicit new, renewal, and competing revision applications for U54 Specialized Center cooperative agreements. These agreements will support large-scale, complex research projects focused on a common research question relevant to aging and/or Alzheimer's Disease (AD) and AD-related dementias (ADRD) research. The projects will likely involve an integrated multidisciplinary team of investigators within a single institution or a consortium of institutions. • The research objectives and scope of applications submitted through this NOFO must adhere to the requirements outlined in the parent NOFO under which the original application was funded. • Prospective applicants are strongly encouraged to contact NIA program staff prior to applying to discuss the responsiveness of their proposed research to this NOFO and its relevance to NIA’s programmatic priorities. • NIA anticipates funding only a limited number of meritorious applications under this announcement.

Budget estimate

$1,000,000 – $10,000,000

The budget for this opportunity is not explicitly stated, but based on the fact that it is a cooperative agreement for a large-scale research project, the award could be substantial. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) typically awards grants in the range of $500,000 to $5 million or more per year, depending on the scope and complexity of the project. Therefore, the estimated budget for this opportunity could be in the range of $1 million to $10 million over the course of the project, assuming a project duration of 2-5 years.
