The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is seeking capability statements from all interested parties for the Small Bodies Discipline Node. The Small Bodies Discipline Node is part of the Planetary Data System (PDS), which ensures the long-term secure preservation of NASA planetary science data and maintains its usability. The node will provide science data services, including ingesting small bodies data from currently observing planetary missions, validating data submissions, and providing expertise to guide and assist missions, instrument teams, programs, and individuals to organize and document digital data. The node will also maintain tools to assist data providers in assembling, validating, and submitting archival products, and provide value-added services to aid in searching and discovering archive products.
Some key responsibilities of the Small Bodies Discipline Node include:
• Providing management and oversight of operations at the Minor Planet Center
• Supporting the NASA Science Mission Directorate and Planetary Science Division's data management activities
• Maintaining archiving standards for PDS data and ensuring interoperability with NASA, Science Mission Directorate (SMD), and PSD Data Services Program standards
• Collaborating with the NASA-provided services of the PDS Project Office, other PDS Discipline Nodes, and the PDS Engineering Node to identify and document a list of software, tools, models, workflows, or processes that can be combined or decommissioned to enable increased PDS enterprise efficiency
• Supporting the Discipline Node's user community to transition to the use of newly available, updated, or combined PDS-provided software, tools, models, workflows, or services
