Description

The National Park Service intends to award a cooperative agreement to No Barriers USA to provide park-based outdoor recreational and educational experiences for youth who are hearing or visually impaired and/or socio-economically underserved. The project aims to educate youth about the importance of natural sounds and night skies in national parks and the science and technology used to help manage these resources. The project also seeks to build field capacity in national parks regarding the stewardship of natural sounds and night skies, and to engage diverse youth in outdoor recreation experiences to foster education and appreciation of recreation benefits, stewardship, and a healthy outdoor lifestyle. * The project will provide immersive outdoor recreation education through a guided expedition to the Grand Canyon for approximately 20 high school students. * The project will develop experiential educational tools and curricula that bring science, technology, and stewardship together. * The project will provide opportunities for youth to learn about natural and cultural resources and the stewardship of public lands. * The project will help youth develop a sense of purpose and confidence, grow through challenges and adversity, and give back as leaders who serve.
