Digitalization of Microfiche

The Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS) is seeking information on industry capabilities for a large-scale microfiche digitization effort. The goal is to convert approximately 5.88 million microfiche sheets to the Federal Agencies Digital Guidelines Initiative (FADGI) 3-Star standard. The project aims to achieve two primary objectives: NARA-Authorized Destruction and Operational Modernization. Some key aspects of the project include: • Converting microfiche sheets to a dual-format, legally admissible digital records repository • Meeting the FADGI 3-Star standard for preservation master images • Generating fully text-searchable PDF Access Copies • Providing instantaneous, universal retrieval capabilities • Ensuring the secure chain-of-custody for physical records • Delivering large batches of digital files and metadata to a government cloud environment
