The National Park Service intends to award a single source justified cooperative agreement to the Regents of the University of California, Santa Cruz, to assess endangered black abalone recruitment at Channel Islands National Park, Point Reyes National Seashore, and Golden Gate National Recreation Area. The recipient will collaborate with the National Park Service on development of outreach materials, lead data analysis, and utilize the study findings to determine whether actions are needed to improve recruitment of black abalone.
Key aspects of the project include:
• Collaborating with NPS on development of outreach materials
• Leading data analysis, report writing, interpretation, and recommendations for Black Abalone management
• Utilizing the methods and processes as outlined in the project's Detailed Implementation Plan
• Working with the parks to obtain NPS research permits
• Obtaining all permits required by National Marine Fisheries Service to work with Endangered Black Abalone
• Revisiting sites of known Black Abalone presence to ensure that Abalone are still present in suitable densities to place artificial recruitment modules (ARMs)
