Description

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) is offering an Exploratory/Developmental Research Grant Program to support exploratory and developmental research projects in various fields of biomedical, behavioral, or clinical research. The proposed project must be related to the programmatic interests of one or more of the participating NIH Institutes and Centers (ICs) based on their scientific missions. Applicants should note that some ICs only accept applications proposing mechanistic studies that meet NIH's definition of a clinical trial through this funding opportunity announcement. • The grant program requires at least one clinical trial to be proposed. • The proposed project must involve considerable risk but may lead to a breakthrough in a particular area. • The grant program supports the early and conceptual stages of research projects. • Eligible applicants include various institutions, organizations, and governments.

Budget estimate

$200,000 – $500,000

Given the nature of the grant program, which supports exploratory and developmental research projects, the budget amount may vary greatly depending on the specific project, its scope, and the applicant's institution. However, based on typical NIH grant awards, the budget could range from $200,000 to $500,000 or more over a two-year period. The actual budget amount will depend on the applicant's proposal, budget, and the NIH's funding decisions.
