Notice of Intent - Water Tunnel System

The Utah Valley University is issuing a Notice of Intent to negotiate and award a sole source contract for a 6" Flow Visualization Water Tunnel System. The proposed supplier is Engineering Laboratory Design Inc. The system is required for flow visualization in the university's labs and must meet specific requirements such as controllable water flow velocities, flow visualization using a dye injection system, force measurement, and a compact footprint. The university has conducted research and found that ELD is the only supplier that meets these requirements. • The system must have a test section with a cross-section of around 6 inches and a length of close to 8 feet. • The system must provide controllable water flow velocities from 0.2 fps to 5.4 fps with velocity variation of about +/-1% or less across the test section cross-sectional area. • The system must provide flow visualization using a dye injection system. • The system must give force measurement of lift and drag with visual display and an option for data output. • The system must provide a dye filtration system. • The system must fit within a compact footprint for the university's lab (about 15’ long by 3’ wide). • The system must use 460/480V 3 phase power (20A or less). • The system must be set up for easy use in an undergraduate lab.
