Description

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is seeking information from potential sources for the Planetary Plasma Interactions Discipline Node of the Planetary Data System (PDS). The PDS is a system of Discipline Nodes that ensures the long-term secure preservation of NASA planetary science data and maintains its usability. The selected contractor will be responsible for performing the function of a Federal information system, including compliance with Federal cybersecurity laws and related NASA cybersecurity directives and requirements. The contractor will also provide science data services, including ingesting planetary plasma interactions data, validating data submissions, and providing expertise to guide and assist missions and instrument teams. Some key aspects of the job include: • Ingesting planetary plasma interactions data from currently observing planetary missions and research scientists • Validating data submissions and organizing peer-reviews of new data archives • Providing expertise to guide and assist missions, instrument teams, programs, and individuals to organize and document digital data • Maintaining tools to assist data providers in assembling, validating, and submitting archival products • Maintaining documentation, user guides, and training modules for data providers • Maintaining value-added services to aid in searching and discovering archive products • Supporting the NASA planetary community in the application and implementation of standards that ensure better access, interoperability, and usability of mission and instrument observations, models, software, and ancillary NASA planetary science data.

Budget estimate

$15,000,000 – $60,000,000

The budget for this opportunity is difficult to estimate because the document does not provide a specific dollar amount. However, considering the scope of work and the fact that it is a 3-year contract, the budget could be substantial. The contractor will be responsible for performing a wide range of tasks, including data ingestion, validation, and archiving, as well as providing expertise and support to missions and instrument teams. The budget may also depend on the level of competition and the number of bidders. A rough estimate could be in the range of $5 million to $20 million per year, considering the complexity and scope of the project. However, this is highly speculative and should be taken as a rough order of magnitude.
