The Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries (MADMF) is seeking applicants from organizations and municipalities to participate in the DMF Derelict Fishing Gear Removal/Disposal Earmark Program. This program aims to reduce derelict fishing gear from Massachusetts coasts, which helps maintain navigable waterways, minimize gear conflicts and ghost fishing, and protects marine mammals and sea turtles from entanglements. The program will also support fishers by providing safe, accessible disposal options for unwanted commercial fishing gear.
• The program is open to municipalities, fishing associations, and other non-profit groups.
• Proposals should include a brief description of the applicant’s connection to the commercial fishing industry, a concise description of the proposed project approach, and a cost estimate for the proposed activities.
• Selected projects will be funded through June 30, 2026, with award amounts expected to average around $5,000 per applicant.
