Description

Introduction: The Village of Richfield Springs is seeking proposals from qualified design and engineering firms to lead the revitalization of Spring Park, an historically significant space located in the heart of Richfield Springs, New York. This project is part of the village’s New York Forward award and is located at 167 Main Street, Richfield Springs. The NY Forward Program focuses on creating healthy, vibrant, walkable downtowns that catalyze sustainable economic development and accrue numerous socioeconomic and environmental benefits to the village and its surrounding region. Spring Park is the only municipal park within the Village of Richfield Springs’ NY Forward Area and is a shared public resource for community events – farmers’ markets and summer concerts. The Historic Spring Park Revitalization Project received an NY Forward award out of recognition for its potential to be restored in a historically sensitive way to provide expanded events, attracting visitors, and better serving residents. Project Description: The overarching goal of the project is to ensure the park is welcoming, accessible, and engaging for people of all ages and abilities while also visually reconnecting it to the downtown area. The project will reestablish formal walkways between allées of trees, create new meandering pathways, restore significant structures and install interpretive signage to tell the story of the park, the sulphur springs and their connection to the region. Inside the park, the historic bandstand will be restored, and the pavilion will be raised, increasing clearance and overall functionality. Storage at the far end of the pavilion will be relocated to the back side. Additional enhancements will include a new playground, musical play garden, swinging benches and other seating, a cornhole game area, improved parking and access, and an optional pickleball court. Additional project activities include, stabilizing and updating the historic stones on the retaining wall/planter at the corner, where the historic clock stands. A new pedestrian entrance will be established - improving access to all ages and abilities and marked with a stone column. The park resides along Main St -which is frequented by residents and visitors alike. To improve connectivity between the park and surrounding businesses, the Village will use NY Forward funds to invest in pedestrian safety and age-friendly multimodal facilities that will promote safety and intergenerational use of the park. For additional project details, see Attachment A, which contains the full project profile as presented in the Town of Richfield Strategic Investment Plan (SIP), the Department of State (DOS) Work Plan for the project, along with conceptual designs for the project.
