Description

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Science Mission Directorate (SMD) is releasing its annual omnibus Research Announcement (NRA), Research Opportunities in Space and Earth Sciences (ROSES) – 2024. This program element, C.12 Planetary Instrument Concepts for the Advancement of Solar System Observations, is part of the ROSES-2024 NRA. The goal of this program is to support the development of planetary instrument concepts that will advance our understanding of the solar system. Proposals may be submitted at any time, pending certain eligibility timing issues related to resubmissions and duplicate proposal avoidance. Awards will be made as grants, cooperative agreements, contracts, and inter- or intra-agency transfers, depending on the nature of the work proposed. • Proposals may be submitted by organizations of every type, Government and private, for profit and not-for-profit, domestic and foreign (with some caveats). • The typical period of performance for an award is three years, but some programs may allow up to five years and others specify shorter periods. • Tables listing the program elements and due dates, a table that provides a very top level summary of proposal contents, and the full text of the ROSES-2024 "Summary of Solicitation" may be found on the NSPIRES website. • Frequently asked questions for ROSES are posted on the NASA website.

Budget estimate

$500,000 – $2,000,000

The budget for this opportunity is difficult to estimate, as the document does not provide a specific award amount. However, based on the fact that NASA provides funding for research and development, it is likely that the award amount will be in the range of $500,000 to $2 million, depending on the scope and complexity of the proposed project. The factors that may influence the likely payment range include the type of instrument being developed, the level of funding available for the program, and the number of proposals received.
