Description

The Environmental Enhancement and Mitigation (EEM) Program is an annual program that offers grants to local, state, and federal governmental agencies, and nonprofit organizations for projects to mitigate the environmental impacts caused by new or modified public transportation facilities. The program has three types of projects: Urban Forestry, Resource Lands, and Mitigation Projects Beyond the Scope of the Lead Agency. Eligible projects must contribute to the mitigation of environmental effects of transportation facilities and demonstrate multiple benefits such as improved air and water quality, reduced consumption of natural resources and energy, and increased adaptability to climate change. The program has a total estimated available funding of $8,000,000 and expects to award 8-13 grants with an estimated amount per award of $750,000 to $1,500,000. Some examples of eligible projects include: • Planting of trees and plants along urban streets and medians • Greening existing public lands and structures • Restoration of urban creeks • Removal of invasive and restoration of natural plant species • Enhancement or restoration of natural areas such as inland wetlands, forests, and wildlife habitats Applicants must submit their proposals online and must choose only one project category and respond to all questions in the selected category.
