Description

The Resilient Energy for Wastewater Infrastructure Program aims to fund the implementation of resilience projects at publicly owned wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) in Illinois. The program will fund solar and battery storage projects to increase energy resilience at WWTPs. Eligible applicants include county governments, city or township governments, and government organizations. The program requires a match of 50% for facilities serving a population greater than 10,000 and 25% for facilities serving a population of 10,000 or less and identified as an environmental justice area of concern. The project must be completed by June 30, 2028, and the applicant must submit a final reimbursement request by July 30, 2028. Key aspects of the project include: • Energy efficiency assessment and upgrades • Resiliency planning • Integration of solar energy generation, battery backup, and critical systems efficiency • Environmental justice, equity, and community benefit • Project feasibility and readiness
