Description

The Forward-Looking Experimentation (FLEX) program seeks fundamental research proposals for disruptive ideas in information and communication technologies (ICT) addressing the grand challenges for a data-driven future. Proposed research should investigate innovative approaches that enable revolutionary advances in science, devices, or systems. The goal of the FLEX program is to identify the direction and timing of key disruptive advances in ICT, accelerate technology exploration and generate intellectual property, develop next-generation researchers for the U.S. workforce, and build the foundation for future research programs. Some key points to consider: * Proposals must address only one of the seven Topic Areas listed in the Research Announcement. * The anticipated funding type is 6.1 (Basic Research) and all resulting research is expected to be fundamental. * DARPA is only soliciting proposals for – and awarding – cooperative agreements. * Non-U.S. organizations are ineligible to apply, but organizations physically located in the United States are eligible. * For-profit entities may apply, but cooperative agreements shall not provide for the payment of fee or profit.

Budget estimate

$500,000 – $5,000,000

The budget for this opportunity is difficult to estimate, as the document does not specify the funding amount. However, based on the fact that the anticipated funding type is 6.1 (Basic Research) and the goal of the FLEX program is to investigate innovative approaches in information and communication technologies, it is possible that the funding amount could be substantial. A possible estimate could be in the range of $500,000 to $5 million, considering the complexity and scope of the research proposals. The actual budget will depend on the proposals submitted and the evaluation criteria used by DARPA.
