Description

The Federal Highway Administration is seeking proposals for the development of Intersection Safety Systems (ISS) prototypes. The goal of the project is to advance end-to-end ISS prototyping, focusing on ISS prototype development to demonstrate the physical capabilities of ISS, address key research questions regarding conflict prediction and mitigation at intersections, and consider the cost-benefit of broader ISS deployment. The project will have two phases: Phase 1 will focus on prototype development and testing in an access-controlled roadway intersection testbed, and Phase 2 will focus on further development and refinement of promising Phase 1 ISS prototypes, including deployment of ISS prototypes in multiple real-world intersections. Key aspects of the project include: • Developing and testing ISS prototypes in an access-controlled testbed • Deploying ISS prototypes in real-world intersections • Evaluating the safety impact of ISS prototypes • Considering the cost-benefit of broader ISS deployment The proposal should include a technical approach, project schedule, team organization, and cost and pricing data. The Government anticipates awarding up to three firm fixed-price contracts, with a total estimated value of $17 million.
