The National Park Service intends to award a single source justified cooperative agreement to River Network for the project "Promote and Support Local River and Watershed Protection". The goal of this agreement is to advance river protection, access, and stewardship through partnership projects between the NPS and River Network. The project will focus on activities and projects that promote healthy watersheds through local action, including local river conservation and protection efforts, river access support and best practices, and building and maintaining a river and watershed conservation directory. The partnership will provide significant public purpose through the promotion and enhancement of a network of professional water conservation stewards working to protect water resources.
Some key aspects of the project include:
• Promoting watershed-based stewardship to improve water quality and flow conditions on NPS wild and scenic rivers
• Facilitating citizen science and volunteer monitoring to support water quality improvement
• Providing training and assistance to river partners and watershed groups for purchasing and maintaining water quality and hydrologic monitoring equipment
• Developing local river protection and access tools and model river protection and access projects
• Guiding and implementing education, exchange, and training activities, including River Rally and National Water Trails Managers Learning Network
