Description

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is seeking qualified firms to replace and install uninterruptible power supply (UPS) batteries at 150 traffic signal sites within the Richmond District. The contractor will provide new Alpha and Clary batteries, remove and dispose of the existing units, and ensure each traffic signal battery backup system is fully operational upon completion. • Install new Alpha battery packs and Clary 4‑pack batteries at each of 150 signal locations. • Remove, recycle, and properly dispose of old battery units in compliance with environmental regulations. • Verify and test each UPS system to confirm reliable operation of traffic signal power backup. • Provide all labor, materials, equipment, and necessary permits; coordinate with VDOT traffic operations as needed. • Complete the work within the contract period and meet VDOT quality and safety standards.

Budget estimate

$800,000 – $1,200,000

Based on typical UPS battery replacement costs for traffic signals, each site may require $5,000–$8,000 for new batteries plus $2,000–$3,000 for labor, disposal, and testing. Multiplying by 150 locations yields an estimated contract value between $1,050,000 and $1,650,000. Assuming efficiencies and potential economies of scale, a reasonable range is $800,000 to $1,200,000. Factors influencing the final amount include exact battery model prices, travel logistics across the Richmond District, and any additional VDOT compliance requirements.
