Coroner Indigent Cremation and Burial

The County of San Mateo is seeking a sole contractor to provide indigent cremation and/or burial services for indigent or abandoned remains under California Health and Safety Code Section 7104. The selected contractor will be responsible for removing the deceased from the site within 24 hours of notification, providing a sound container, and cremating or burying the remains. The contractor will also be required to coordinate with the Department of Veterans Affairs and the local national cemetery for veteran burials. The estimated annual number of indigent or unclaimed dead is between 30 to 40. • The contractor must have experience in providing similar services for at least four years. • The contractor must have the ability to remove the deceased from the site within 24 hours of notification. • The contractor must have a sound container in conformance with the rules, regulations, ordinances, and laws of the State of California. • The contractor must have the ability to cremate within 5 days of removal of the body. • The contractor must have a contract with a cemetery where the cremains can be interred in a community niche. • The contractor must be able to facilitate placement at a National Cemetery following the cremation of the indigent veteran.
