Description

Argonne National Laboratory is seeking information from various stakeholders regarding opportunities to participate in the development and use of a National Genesis Mission Supercomputing Center of Innovation. The center will include AI supercomputing resources and be located on Argonne property. The laboratory is interested in receiving input on two areas: computing and infrastructure capabilities, and use, co-funding, and partnership interest. The goal is to strengthen U.S. leadership in artificial intelligence, accelerate scientific discovery and engineering innovation, and enable secure, scalable computing infrastructure aligned with national priorities. Some key points to consider include: • The center will include AI supercomputing resources and be located on Argonne property • Argonne is seeking input on opportunities for organizations to provide equipment, software, services, test beds, infrastructure elements, or other capabilities that support the initial deployment and future phases of the center • The laboratory is interested in models that leverage substantial private-sector investment, with the expectation that much of the infrastructure associated with the center would be financed through private, non-Federal sources • Argonne welcomes responses from a broad range of stakeholders, including universities, industry stakeholders, large businesses, small businesses, and emerging technology firms • The deadline for submitting responses is August 21, 2026

Budget estimate

$5,000,000,000 – $20,000,000,000

The budget for this opportunity is not explicitly stated, but it is mentioned that the first phase of the project is expected to require at least $6B of privately financed investment during the first 18 months. Given the scope and complexity of the project, it is likely that the total budget will be in the billions of dollars. A rough estimate for the budget could be between $5B and $20B, considering the investment required for the first phase and the potential for future phases and expansions. The budget will likely be influenced by factors such as the number of partners involved, the scope of the project, and the level of investment required.
