Description

The Los Alamos National Laboratory is offering a technology licensing opportunity for a platinum-free hydrogen catalyst. This catalyst enables high-performance hydrogen production using earth-abundant materials, reducing reliance on precious metals and lowering costs. The technology has several key advantages, including precious-metal-free performance, enhanced durability, and lower cost. It can be applied to various markets, such as hydrogen production, energy and power generation, and chemical manufacturing. The development status of the technology is TRL 3, and a US patent is pending. * The technology eliminates the need for precious metal cathode catalysts * It delivers performance comparable to platinum-ruthenium systems in anion-exchange membrane water electrolyzers * It has enhanced durability, demonstrating 2.5 times longer life in 100-hour testing * It has a lower cost, replacing platinum with earth-abundant nickel and molybdenum * It has a supply chain advantage, minimizing reliance on scarce precious metals * It is OEM-compatible and scalable, with a PTL-supported architecture and controlled catalyst loading suitable for industrial AEMWE platforms

Budget estimate

$100,000 – $1,000,000

The budget for this opportunity is difficult to estimate, as the document does not provide a specific amount or range. However, considering the potential applications of the technology, such as hydrogen production and energy generation, the budget could be substantial. The cost savings from using earth-abundant materials instead of precious metals could also be significant. Factors that may influence the likely payment range include the scope of the license agreement, the size of the market, and the level of competition. A rough estimate could be in the range of $100,000 to $1 million, depending on the terms of the agreement and the level of investment required to bring the technology to market.
