Description

The University of North Dakota is seeking qualified contractors to renovate and relocate its Biomedical Engineering department from the former university bookstore into a newly configured space. Bidders may submit a multi‑prime bid (separate mechanical, electrical, and general construction contracts) or a single‑prime bid covering the entire scope, with the single‑prime offer required to be lower than the combined three lowest multi‑prime bids. The project includes architectural demolition, mechanical HVAC upgrades, electrical power and data upgrades, technology installations, and interior finish work, with several optional alternates for specific rooms and labs. A pre‑bid site inspection is scheduled, and a bid bond of at least 5 % of the bid amount is required. All submissions are to be entered electronically via the UND Jaggaer portal. • Scope: full renovation (architectural, mechanical, electrical, technology) of the former bookstore into a Biomedical Engineering facility. • Bidding options: multi‑prime (mechanical, electrical, general) or single‑prime (must beat combined multi‑prime). • Key dates: pre‑bid meeting 4/28/2026, questions due 5/14/2026, bid deadline 5/21/2026, performance period 5/21/2026‑11/1/2026. • Mandatory requirements: North Dakota Contractor’s License, 5 % bid bond, insurance, performance/pay bonds, tax clearance, and compliance with all listed specifications and alternates.

Budget estimate

$5,000,000 – $15,000,000

The solicitation does not disclose a contract value. Comparable university biomedical‑engineering renovation projects of similar size (≈ 50,000 sq ft) typically range from $5 million to $15 million, depending on finish level, mechanical/electrical complexity, and alternates. Assuming a mid‑range cost, the award could be around $8–12 million, yielding the contractor’s revenue in that band after subcontractor and material pass‑throughs.
