Advance Notice: Maintenance Dredging of Newark Bay

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) is proposing to perform maintenance dredging of portions of the Newark Bay, New Jersey, Federal Navigation Project. The project involves removing approximately 300,000 cubic yards of selected critical shoals from the Main, Port Newark, and Port Newark Pierhead Channels of Newark Bay. The dredged material will be processed and transported to a contractor-furnished, State-permitted upland placement site. The project requires the use of a mechanical dredge with a closed clamshell environmental bucket and multiple barges and tugboats. The contractor will be required to commence work within five calendar days after the date of receipt of the Notice-to-Proceed and maintain an integrated production rate of at least 2,500 CY per calendar day. • The project is expected to take place between August 2026 and February 2027. • The work is estimated to cost between $25,000,000 and $100,000,000. • Liquidated damages of $2,921.00 per calendar day of delay will be assessed to the Contractor until all work under the contract is accepted as complete. • The project requires the contractor to provide copies of all required permits and approvals for transportation, transfer, dewatering, processing, and final placement of dredged material.
